About the Role
This position provides counseling, casework, and support to inmates who are adjusting to the correctional environment and preparing for community re-entry. As a Corrections Counselor 2, you will make a positive impact every day by guiding others through meaningful change and helping them develop skills, address challenges, and prepare for a successful return to the community.
Responsibilities
- Inmate Counseling: Interview inmates, offer guidance on adjustment, support conflict resolution, and provide referrals for social, educational, and vocational growth.
- Caseload Management: Develop and maintain records, communicate with families and agencies, and coordinate information for case planning and reintegration.
- Assessment Review: Analyze tests, compile histories, and document evaluations to determine programming, risk levels, and treatment needs.
- Treatment Coordination: Work with multidisciplinary staff to align programming, counseling, activities, and expectations that support behavioral change.
- Parole Preparation: Assist with re-entry planning, secure identification documents, and prepare reports and recommendations for parole review.
Schedule
- Full-time employment, 40 hours per week.
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework is not available for this position.
Pay
Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $64,574.00 (before taxes).
Requirements
- Successful completion of the Corrections Counselor 1 training program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- One year of professional counseling or casework experience in a correctional facility, and a bachelor’s degree including 18 college credits in any combination of sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes one year of professional counseling or casework experience in a correctional facility and 18 college credits in any combination of sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field.
Additional Requirements
- Obtain Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN) and Pennsylvania Justice Network (JNET) certification within two months of employment and maintain certification for the duration of employment.
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA.
- Meet the PA residency requirement.
- Pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
