Corrections Barber Instructor - SCI Coal Township

About the role

Guide and inspire others through skilled barber instruction as a Corrections Barber Instructor for the Department of Corrections. This role helps inmates build confidence and practical skills to support their future at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Coal Township, working as part of a team that encourages growth and positive change.

Responsibilities

• Provide classroom and hands‑on instruction in standard barbering practices.
• Develop and manage the barbering curriculum in line with state guidelines.
• Determine needed supplies and submit purchase requests for tools.
• Issue, track, and account for all tools and materials used in training.
• Maintain discipline and monitor inmate progress and participation.

Requirements

• Active Barber Teacher License issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Barber Examiners.
• Meet Pennsylvania residency requirement.
• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA.
• Ability to perform essential job functions.
• Pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

Pay

Starting annual salary of $53,036.00 (before taxes) for candidates new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Benefits

• Eligibility for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

Schedule

Full‑time, 40‑hour work week. Hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday – Friday. No telework option.
