Responsibilities

• Oversee work of incarcerated individuals assigned to the Ohio Penal Industries (OPI) workshop and/or engaged in service delivery.
• Provide security and custody of incarcerated individuals.
• Train incarcerated individuals in proper work methods, equipment operation, and safety practices.
• Enforce institution rules and regulations.
• Maintain control of supplies, equipment, and tools (e.g., issue and record daily tool and chemical usage, inventory supplies).
• Assign and review work (e.g., schedule incarcerated individuals; monitor and evaluate work performed and complete quality control checks).
• Ensure quality control specifications of products.
• Prepare and maintain records and reports of workshop activities.
• Input data into the manufacturing system as assigned (Enterprise Resource Planning - ERP).
• Oversee equipment maintenance (e.g., schedule routine and preventative maintenance) and workshop cleaning.
• Escort and/or transport incarcerated individuals.
• Oversee shipping, receiving, storage, and/or inventory of products and materials.
• Prepare and submit reports.
• Complete daily and month-end inmate payroll, month-end Earned Credit report, inmate performance evaluations (e.g., annual and special), and weekly inspection reports.
• Perform other related duties and security functions.
• Attend in-service trainings.
• Work on special projects and committees.
• Assist with ACA (e.g., institutional and OPI) files.
• May be utilized in any other OPI shop due to staff shortage and/or extenuating circumstances.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Formal education in arithmetic that includes fractions, decimals, and percentages.
• 18 months of training or experience in providing work direction to employees or a work crew.
• 3 months of training or experience in employee training and development.
• For positions assigned to the asbestos abatement program: successful completion of the following courses per EPA regulations (Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act - AHERA, CFR763 Sub Part E):
  • Asbestos building inspection initial course.
  • Asbestos management planner initial course.
  • Asbestos abatement project supervisor initial course.
• Or equivalent of the minimum class qualifications for employment noted above.
