Correctional Workshop Specialist-20021500

What You’ll Do

  • Oversees work of incarcerated individuals assigned to the OPI workshop and/or engaged in service delivery
  • Provides security and custody of incarcerated individuals
  • Trains incarcerated individuals in proper work methods, equipment operation and/or safety practices in the assigned area
  • Enforces institution rules and regulations
  • Maintains control of supplies, equipment, and tools (issues and records daily tool and chemical usage, inventory supplies)
  • Schedules and reviews work (assigns and monitors work performed, completes quality control checks)
  • Ensures quality control specifications of products
  • Prepares and maintains records and reports of workshop activities
  • Inputs data into manufacturing system as assigned, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)
  • Oversees equipment maintenance (schedules routine and preventative maintenance)
  • Oversees shipping, receiving, storage and/or inventory of products and materials
  • Prepares and submits reports
  • Completes daily and month-end inmate payroll, month-end Earned Credit report, inmate performance evaluations (annual and special), and weekly inspection report
  • Performs other related duties and security functions
  • Attends in-service trainings
  • Works on special projects and committees
  • Affords assistance with ACA (institutional and OPI)
  • May be utilized in any other OPI shop due to staff shortage and/or extenuating circumstances
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes fractions, decimals & percentages
  • 18 mos. trg. or 18 mos. exp. in providing work direction to employees or a work crew
  • 3 mos. trg. or 3 mos. exp. in employee training & development
  • Or, for positions assigned to asbestos abatement program, successful completion of the following courses:
    • asbestos building inspection initial course
    • asbestos management planner initial course
    • asbestos abatement project supervisor initial course
  • per EPA regulations Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (i.e., AHERA), CRF763 Sub Part E.
