This part-time position is located at CA State Prison (SOL) in Vacaville, CA (Solano County) and works 8 hours per week. The monthly salary range is $917.00 - $1,127.00.

Effective July 1, 2025, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) requires each full-time employee in Bargaining Unit 15, and related Excluded, Exempt, and Statutory Exempt employees, to have their base salary reduced by 3 percent and receive 5 PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027. Part-time and permanent intermittent employees are subject to the same conditions on a prorated basis.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and train staff and incarcerated workers responsible for preparing meals for patients in a correctional health care facility.
  • Oversee the preparation and dispensing of therapeutic diets per physician orders.
  • Ensure compliance with departmental and institutional policies and procedures, including Title 15, Department Operations Manual, California Code of Regulations Title 22, Standard Operational Procedures, Diet Manual, California Retail Food Code, and Food & Nutrition Services Manual.
  • Supervise the cleaning and sanitation of the kitchen facility and equipment.
  • Maintain order and supervise the conduct of incarcerated individuals to protect and maintain the safety of persons and property.

Requirements

Applicants must meet one of the following experience requirements:

  • One year of experience in the California state service performing the duties of a Cook Specialist II (Correctional Facility) or a Cook Specialist II.
  • Two years of experience in a supervisory capacity over cooks and other food service workers with responsibility for supervising and assisting with the preparation, cooking, and serving of various food items.

Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
