CORRECTIONAL SERGEANT

About the role

Pelican Bay State Prison is recruiting to fill two limited term, full time Correctional Sergeant positions, one position in Payroll Reporting Unit 201 and the other in 209. These positions are limited term for 12 months; they may be extended for up to 24 months or become permanent.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the daily operations of the Payroll Reporting Unit, ensuring compliance with departmental policies and procedures.
• Manage inmate populations, maintaining security and order within assigned units.
• Conduct regular inspections of housing areas to ensure proper maintenance and cleanliness.
• Provide guidance and training to new staff members, assisting in the development of their skills and knowledge.
• Respond to emergencies and incidents as needed, ensuring the safety of inmates and staff.
• Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to stay current with corrections industry standards.

Requirements

Minimum requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, plus a minimum of 2 years of experience working in a correctional facility setting, or a combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Qualifications

Applicants must possess a valid California Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record. They must also pass a background check, including fingerprinting, and a polygraph test.

Skills

Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills are essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with correctional facilities software is preferred.

Pay

The starting salary range for this position is $8,184.00 - $10,292.00 per month, with potential for a higher salary based on qualifications and experience.
