About the role

The Wyoming Department of Corrections seeks a Correctional Sergeant to assist with security in the Unicover Building. This position involves providing intelligence, managing security, and conducting background checks.

Responsibilities

• First responder and indirect supervisor for the Unicover building
• Responds to and controls minor and major incidents
• Makes notifications to facility management, outside agencies, and department officials
• Acts as the initial commander in emergencies
• Ensures policies and procedures are enforced
• Conducts staff background checks
• Supports Investigative Services Unit by monitoring inmate phone calls, tracking security threat groups, reviewing correspondence, and conducting link analysis
• Conducts NCIC background checks and processes applications for WDOC Central Office access badges
• Participates or chairs the Safety Committee and conducts simulations and exercises
• Conducts security walk-throughs and emergency preparedness drills
• Provides Krav Maga and other in-service training

Qualifications

• Prior experience in Correctional Security, typically as a Correctional Corporal
• Correctional Officer Certification from Wyoming Peace Officers Standards & Training (POST) Commission
• Weapons certification and ability to maintain certification
