About the role

The Wyoming Women's Center (WWC) was established in 1981. It serves as a primary education and treatment center for female inmates. WWC provides programming, vocational, recreational, and educational programs to allow the WDOC to reduce recidivism through cognitive and behavioral intervention.

Responsibilities

  • Enforcement of rules and regulations.
  • Responding to post orders of varied assigned posts.
  • Modeling appropriate, pre-social behavior.
  • Supervising inmates in the performance of various jobs; modeling appropriate, pre-social behavior.
  • Aiding in a variety of searches, including checking for contraband items.
  • Observing daily inmate living, programming, work areas, and the perimeter fence line, reporting security violations.
  • Conducting daily scheduled counts of inmates.
  • Assuming duties of housing control centers, central control centers, and inmate living areas that monitor inmate movements.
  • Becoming familiar with inmate names and characteristics for easier identification of inmate movements and infractions.
  • Aiding in restraining unruly inmates, utilizing the minimum amount of force required.
  • Aiding in transporting inmates within and off institution boundaries, including inter- and intra-state predetermined destinations.
  • Aiding in processing newly incarcerated inmates or the processing of released inmates.
  • Attending required training to perform duties at an acceptable level.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • U.S. Citizen.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • No felony or domestic violence conviction.

Requirements

  • Completion of an initial training period and award of Correctional Officer Certification by the Wyoming Peace Officers Standards & Training (POST) Commission within one year of initial appointment.
  • Knowledge of security measures, techniques, and precautions necessary to maintain a safe and secure institution.
