About the role

The Wyoming Department of Corrections seeks motivated individuals to join their team as Correctional Officers at the Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution in Torrington, Wyoming.

Responsibilities

• Enforcement of rules and regulations.
• Responding to post orders of varied assigned posts.
• Supervising inmates in the performance of various jobs; modeling appropriate, pro-social behavior.
• Aiding in a variety of searches, including checking for contraband items.
• Observing daily inmate living, programming, work areas, and the perimeter fence line, reporting security violations.
• Conducting daily scheduled counts of inmates.
• Assuming duties of housing control centers, central control centers, and inmate living areas, monitoring inmate movements.
• Becoming familiar with inmate names and characteristics for easier identification of inmate movements and infractions.
• Assisting in restraining unruly inmates, utilizing the minimum amount of force required.
• Assisting in transporting inmates within and off institution boundaries, including inter- and intra-state predetermined destinations.
• Assisting in processing newly incarcerated inmates or the appropriate out-processing of released inmates.
• Attending required training to perform duties at an acceptable level.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age, have a High School Diploma or GED.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Must have a valid driver's license.
• Must not have a felony or domestic violence conviction.

Knowledge

• Knowledge of security measures, techniques, and precautions necessary to maintain a safe and secure institution.

Education

• Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED.
• Experience: 0-1 year of progressive work experience in a Correctional Setting.
• Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: None.

Necessary Special Requirements

• Physical Working Conditions: Candidates must successfully pass a background/reference check, medical and psychological evaluation, physical fitness exam, urinalysis drug screen, and other pre-employment testing prior to the appointment.
• Ability to work overtime as required and the ability to work on any shift, holidays, and weekends.
