About the role

The Oregon Department of Corrections is seeking a Correctional Officer for Snake River Correctional Institution in Ontario, Oregon. This is an entry-level position with a seven-week training program, including certification by the Department of Public Safety and Standards Training (DPSST).

Responsibilities

  • Maintain order within the institution, enforcing rules and regulations.
  • Provide care to ensure safety and security of adults in custody.
  • Work in a team setting to monitor activities and supervise work assignments.
  • Perform cell checks and searches for contraband.
  • Handle disputes and enforce discipline.
  • Monitor safety, sanitation, and fire hazards.

Requirements

  • Possess a high school diploma or GED.
  • Be 21 years of age or older.
  • Be a United States citizen.
  • Meet DPSST physical standards.
  • Have reading comprehension, report writing, and retention abilities.
  • Satisfy an ODOC background investigation.
  • Pass NTN test with a minimum score of 70 percent in all areas.
  • Pass a psychological evaluation and risk assessment as required by HB 2936.
  • Not have evidence of substance abuse.
  • Be proficient using computers.
  • Have a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

  • Previous correctional experience is not required.
  • Must have a history of law-abiding behavior.
  • Must have a good employee work history.
  • Must have a cooperative work history.
  • Must have the ability to take control of situations.
  • Must have the ability to support and communicate with other staff.
  • Must have the ability to make choices reflecting good integrity.
