About the role
The Oregon Department of Corrections seeks individuals to join the team at Columbia River Correctional Institution in Portland, Oregon. This is an entry-level position with a seven-week training program, including certification by the Department of Public Safety and Standards Training (DPSST).
Responsibilities
- Maintain order within the institution, enforcing rules and regulations.
- Provide care to ensure safety and security of adults in custody.
- Work in a team setting to monitor adult in-custody activities and supervise work assignments.
- Carry out cell checks and searches for contraband, settle disputes, and enforce discipline.
- Monitor safety, sanitation, and fire hazards.
Requirements
- Possess a high school diploma or GED.
- Be 21 years of age or older.
- Be a United States citizen.
- Meet DPSST physical standards.
- Have reading comprehension, report writing, and retention abilities.
- Satisfy an ODOC background investigation.
Qualifications
- Pass NTN test with a minimum score of 70 percent in all areas.
- Pass a psychological evaluation and risk assessment as required by HB 2936.
- Have a history of law-abiding behavior.
- Not have evidence of substance abuse.
- Be proficient using computers.
- Have a valid driver's license.
