Correctional Officer I (Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility)

Responsibilities
- Work with inmates to promote rehabilitation and positive change.
- Ensure the safety and security of the facility and its staff.
- Perform routine duties such as monitoring inmate activities, maintaining order, and ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.
- Respond to emergencies and assist in evacuations as needed.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance skills and knowledge.
Requirements
- Ability to work overtime as required to maintain safe staffing levels.
- Ability to work weekends and holidays when scheduled.
- Successful completion of annual mandatory training requirements.
- Adequate physical condition to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
Qualifications
- High school graduation or equivalent AND two (2) years or more full-time work experience.
- One (1) year or more of college level course work AND one (1) year or more of full-time work experience.
- Two (2) years or more of college level course work.
Skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle stressful situations calmly and effectively.
- Knowledge of correctional facilities and related laws and regulations.
- Basic computer skills for job-related tasks.
Benefits
- Annual training pay of $2,000.

Pay
$25.00 - $30.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
Schedule
The 2-2-3 schedule provides greater work-life balance while maintaining continuous facility operations. Shifts are assigned based on seniority and facility operational needs.
Environmental Factors
- Duties are performed largely within a correctional facility and in the immediate area of inmates.
- High stress situations are predictable, even frequent.
- The potential of physical assault or injury is present.
- Transportation and supervision of inmates outside of the correctional facility may be required.
- A valid motor vehicle operator's license is necessary.
- Overtime and emergency duty are unpredictable.
- Shift assignments may change in accordance with the needs of the facility.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school graduation or equivalent AND two (2) years or more full-time work experience.
- One (1) year or more of college level course work AND one (1) year or more of full-time work experience.
- Two (2) years or more of college level course work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a correctional setting.
- Military experience.
Additional Information
Current shift schedules are: Day Shift: 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM Night Shift: 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM. Shift assignments may change in accordance with the needs of the facility.
