About the role
The Oregon Department of Corrections seeks a Correctional Officer for Eastern Oregon Correctional Institution (Pendleton). This is an entry-level position with a seven-week training program, including certification by the Department of Public Safety and Standards Training (DPSST).
Responsibilities
- Maintain order within the institution, enforcing rules and regulations.
- Provide care to ensure safety and security of adults in custody.
- Monitor and supervise adult in-custody activities and work assignments.
- Perform cell checks and searches for contraband.
- Settle disputes and enforce discipline.
- Inspect and report on safety, sanitation, and fire hazards.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least 21 years old.
- U.S. citizenship.
- Meet DPSST physical standards.
- Read, write, and retain information.
- Satisfy an ODOC background investigation.
Qualifications
- Pass NTN test with a minimum score of 70 percent in all areas.
- Pass psychological evaluation and risk assessment.
- No evidence of substance abuse.
- Proficient in using computers.
- Valid driver's license.
Skills
- Good ratings: Working as a team member, taking control of situations, cooperative in supporting management’s goals, making choices reflecting good integrity, supporting and communicating with other staff.
- Low risk ratings: Unprofessionally involved with offenders, conducting yourself in an abrasive style, and misusing authority.
- Experience in a public safety occupation.

Pay
The salary range listed above is for non-PERS qualifying applicants. PERS qualifying applicants may be eligible for an adjusted range to reflect an additional 6.95%. The State of Oregon provides a generous benefit package.
Schedule
Work shifts and days off may be subject to a bid process in accordance with the applicable labor contract. All Correctional Officer positions are union represented.
