Correctional Officer

About the role

The South Bend Community Re-Entry Center is a minimum-security facility in South Bend, Indiana, serving incarcerated individuals within 12 months of release. Correctional Officers work in a 12-hour shift, overseeing security and daily activities.

Responsibilities

• Maintain security of assigned areas, count incarcerated individuals, and ensure compliance with security procedures.
• Manage incarcerated individuals in work details and conduct searches for unauthorized items.
• Escort incarcerated individuals to and from various locations and keep detailed records.

Requirements

• Possession of a High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE).
• At least eighteen (18) years of age.
• Willingness to travel with reasonable accommodation.
• Pass drug screenings.
• Ability to work with and around incarcerated individuals.
• Ability to work mandatory/voluntary overtime.
• Strong critical thinking skills.

Qualifications

• Ability to successfully complete personal protection training.
• Supervisory responsibilities for incarcerated individuals.
• Physical demands including frequent walking, standing, climbing, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and similar movements.
• Keen observational and hearing skills.

Pay

This position starts at a $22.00/hour base pay, equating to $1,886.50 biweekly or $49,049.00 annually. Candidates with relevant experience may qualify for a higher base pay. These figures do not account for any overtime pay an employee may earn.

Schedule

Candidates will work 7 total shifts, including 1 weekend during the 14-day pay period.
