Correctional Officer
About the role
The St. Louis County Jail Division hires permanent full-time Correctional Officers. These positions entail shift work, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. There are premiums for hours worked in the evening and night, along with premiums for working on contracted holidays.
Responsibilities
- Maintain security and safety of staff and inmates while in legal custody.
- Process admissions and releases.
- Maintain security.
- Direct inmates.
- Assist with medical services.
- Document jail records.
- Submit reports as required.
- Operate computers and other electronic devices, fire and life safety equipment, security equipment, and other jail-related equipment as necessary.
- Custody and care of inmates during transportation to and from their places of custody and confinement.
Requirements
No prior training in corrections is necessary; we train all new hires in our own academy right in the jail.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Possession of a valid driver's license.

Pay
The salary range reflected above is the normal hiring range for 2025. The full salary range, including longevity pay, is $27.45 - $39.04 per hour.
