Pay

Starting pay: $16.00 per hour with step increases:

• $16.50 per hour after 7 months
• $17.50 per hour after 13 months
• $18.00 per hour after 2 years
• $18.50 per hour after 3 years
• $19.00 per hour after 4 years

About the Role

Reports to the designated sergeant. Responsible for the custody and discipline of inmates in compliance with American Correctional Association (ACA) standards, Management & Training Corporation (MTC), and Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) directives.

Responsibilities

• Search for contraband and provide security.
• Count, feed, and supervise inmates in housing, work, and other areas.
• Provide custody and security of inmates, including observation of inmates.
• Perform security of various assigned areas.
• Read, review, and properly apply information found in inmate records related to the inmates' health and safety and the security of the facility.
• Prepare and maintain records, forms, and reports.
• Work overtime when directed.
• Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.
• Maintain accountability of staff, inmates, and property; adhere to safety practices.
• Perform other duties as assigned within capabilities as determined by management.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
• A valid driver’s license in the state of Mississippi or Alabama with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
• Must successfully complete annual in-service training requirements.
