CORRECTIONAL LIEUTENANT
Under direction of the Facility Captain, the Correctional Lieutenant is responsible for custodial operations and maintaining order and discipline in accordance with established procedures throughout the facility (e.g., housing units, dining halls, work areas, exercise yards).
Responsibilities
- Train and evaluate Sergeants and Correctional Officers in custodial procedures and practices.
- Assist staff in improving efficiency in assigned duties.
- Ensure custodial functions comply with institutional procedures.
- Monitor, audit, and adjudicate disciplinary reports.
- Oversee incarcerated persons’ activities, program functions, and living conditions.
- Ensure adherence to the Daily Activity Schedule and enforcement of institutional rules and regulations.

Schedule
This is a 12-month Limited Term position that may be extended to 24 months, with the possibility of becoming permanent. Individuals eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered.

Requirements
Refer to the Class Specification for Minimum Requirements. Key qualifications include:
- Knowledge of correctional administration, criminology, discipline methods, and behavior of persons under restraint.
- Principles of personnel management, supervision, and employee training.
- Care and use of firearms; institutional and camp sanitation, health, and safety standards.
- Interviewing and investigative techniques; Department’s Affirmative Action Program objectives.
- Ability to plan, organize, and evaluate training programs; enforce rules with firmness, tact, and impartiality; analyze situations and act effectively in emergencies.
Pay
$9,767.00 - $12,290.00 per month. New to State candidates will be hired at the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

- Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview/appointment. Unofficial transcripts/diploma required if meeting qualifications with education; official transcripts may be required upon appointment.
- Foreign education must be verified for U.S. equivalency (see NACES).
- New hires must complete background investigation (Live Scan Fingerprinting) and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment, with annual testing thereafter.
- CDCR/CCHCS utilizes E-Verify to confirm employment authorization (www.e-verify.gov).
