About the role

Indiana Women’s Prison is a maximum-security facility in Indianapolis, Indiana, serving incarcerated adult females with diverse needs. The facility focuses on rehabilitation, family bonding, and re-entry planning.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the facilities lead investigator of Investigations and Intelligence.
  • Investigate and gather physical evidence and testimony of incidents/accidents involving staff, offenders, or others associated with the facility.
  • Make recommendations concerning the adequacy of sufficient evidence to warrant further full-scale investigations by higher-level investigators.
  • Investigate correspondence between offenders and staff and ensure it is in compliance to Indiana codes and Departmental policy.
  • Conduct inspections of agency facilities to determine whether security and safety procedures are in place and effective.
  • Aid the leadership with developing, implementing, and monitoring facility/department security procedures.
  • Gather evidence, recover, and accurately label items considered evidence for future use in internal/external cases.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations and American Correctional Association (ACA) standards.
  • Conduct criminal investigations and provide reports, information, and criminal intelligence to outside agencies when appropriate.
  • Participate in trials, provide testimony as expert witness, and testify in court hearings.
  • Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development.
  • Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees.
  • Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.

Requirements

  • Must test negative on all drug screenings.
  • Extensive knowledge of the principles, techniques, and terminology of current investigative practices.
  • Extensive knowledge of security procedures.
  • Considerable knowledge of all federal laws, state statues, assigned agency rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Advanced knowledge of due process and criminal and civil liability.
  • Working knowledge of Alco-Sensor, field drug test kits, fingerprint, forensic evidence equipment, digital forensic, video surveillance equipment, body worn cameras, and secured electronic storage system.
  • Working knowledge of crime scene preservation.
  • Ability to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflow.
  • Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skillsets.

Pay

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $53,222.00 but may be commensurate with education and work experience. Use our Compensation Calculator to view the total compensation package.

Schedule

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work.
