About the Role

As a Stock Controller, you'll lead and provision a well-stocked and well-maintained department while providing superior customer service. You'll perform supervisory responsibilities, such as assisting with work scheduling, training, and developing team members. This role offers the opportunity to learn about multiple products and departments across the store and lead a team, serving as a foundation for career growth within the company.

Responsibilities

  • Management / Training:
    • Carry leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Department Manager; work nights or opposite shifts.
    • Lead the overnight stocking team, delegating and directing work, motivating team members, and holding them accountable for meeting expectations.
    • Manage conflict or escalate issues to appropriate leadership.
    • Communicate team performance, operations, morale, department needs, and inventory status to the Department Manager and leadership.
    • Provide formal input on team member performance.
    • Coach and develop team members; assist with new hire onboarding and training.
    • Provide input on scheduling and report on overnight time and attendance.
    • Lead the team to deliver key results (e.g., A+ Standards, labor, overtime, hospitality).
    • Use technology and data to manage inventory and in-stocks.
    • Comply with departmental SOPs and store operating procedures; ensure team compliance.
    • Ensure adherence to inventory management SOPs and processes (e.g., MSI/MSR, scan full case backstock).
    • Train team members on achieving 100% in-stocks, product rotation, and fully-filled displays.
    • Communicate with Direct Store Delivery (DSD) vendors.
    • Load, unload, and move heavy, bulky products.
    • Perform Night Stocker duties as needed.
  • Customer Service:
    • Provide excellent customer service; model and coach superior customer service and hospitality.
    • Answer customer questions regarding products, assist with selections, address complaints, and resolve problems.
    • Merchandise products effectively.

Requirements

  • Age Requirement: 18+
  • Work Experience:
    • 3+ months of experience in stocking or customer service.
    • Experience leading an overnight team or large teams in other areas of the business (preferred).
  • Skills & Abilities:
    • Understanding of technology.
    • Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with the team, both verbally and in writing.
    • Ability to work overnight schedules.
    • Ability to operate a pallet jack and baler.
    • Ability to work well with others and manage multiple priorities.
    • Ability to plan, prioritize, and delegate as work changes.
    • Ability to anticipate change and adapt accordingly.
    • Motivation to grow and learn with the company.
    • High energy level and stamina; ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
    • Enjoys working overnight shifts and thrives in a team environment.
    • Adaptable mindset; willingness to remain flexible to unexpected changes while maintaining structure and consistency.
  • Licenses/Certifications:
    • Completion of forklift/power jack training.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

Work in a fast-paced environment with the following physical demands, based on your department:

  • Grocery Department:
    • Constantly: reach at waist, grasp.
    • Frequently: stand, walk, bend.
    • Occasionally: reach at overhead, shoulder, knee, or floor; stoop, squat, crouch, kneel, climb stairs, pivot, twist, push/pull with arms, pinch, perform fine motor movements.
    • Occasionally exposed to cold, loud noise, ambient temperatures, and wet conditions.
    • Ability to lift 50 lbs and manage in excess of 100 lbs.
  • Drugstore Department:
    • Constantly: reach at waist, grasp.
    • Frequently: stand, walk.
    • Occasionally: reach at overhead, shoulder, knee, or floor; bend, stoop, squat, crouch, kneel, climb stairs, pivot, twist, push/pull with arms, pinch, perform fine motor movements.
    • Occasionally exposed to loud noise, ambient temperatures, and wet conditions.
    • Ability to lift 66 lbs and manage in excess of 50 lbs.

Measurements are defined as:

  • Constantly: 5.5+ hours per 8-hour day.
  • Frequently: 2.5 - 5.5 hours per 8-hour day.
  • Occasionally: 0 - 2.5 hours per 8-hour day.

Partners must never lift beyond their own safe lifting limit. If an item is too heavy, break it down into lighter components or ask for assistance from another team member or manager.
