About the role
We are seeking a Corporate Security Officer to support a professional corporate environment and help maintain a safe and secure workplace for Nationwide, a Fortune 100 company with nearly $70 billion in annual sales. This third-shift position works from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., with two consecutive days off during the week. The role is full-time at 40 hours per week and eligible for overtime. Candidates must be available to work weekends and holidays as needed and must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Responsibilities
- Greets all persons entering or calling the office buildings and provides requested information.
- Enforces company security and life safety policies.
- Responds to emergency situations, including workplace violence, violent offenders, associates stranded in elevators, accidents, fires, medical emergencies, crimes in progress, and alarm notifications.
- Assists with emergency procedures and may direct public safety officials.
- Patrols buildings to provide physical security and safety protection for the facility and associates; responds immediately to radio calls to investigate alarms and emergency situations.
- May patrol the campus on bike, foot, or in a car to protect lives and property, prevent criminal acts, and respond to life-threatening or dangerous situations.
- Writes initial loss, stolen, or incident reports for claims of loss or situations within the facilities; conducts follow-up investigations, including reviewing documents, video, and interviewing suspects and victims.
- Assists management with investigations and testifies in court as needed.
- Maintains facilities access control via card key system, securing facilities at the end of the workday.
- Operates the access control system to allow or deny access, create access cards, generate system reports, and maintain the database.
- Provides associate escorts to and from facilities.
- Assists with regularly scheduled building facility inspections of fire extinguishers, standpipe systems, public address systems, elevators, and fire alarm systems.
- With proper approval, may carry a firearm when on duty, qualifying annually; if armed, expected to intervene in situations with imminent risk of harm, potentially using force, including deadly force.
- May be required to obtain a concealed carry permit dependent upon assignment.
- Assists with on-the-job training of new security associates and provides security awareness and new hire security training.
- Performs courier service to financial institutions for the Nationwide Companies.
- Monitors electronic protection systems, including alarms, closed-circuit television, access control, fire, elevator, and intercom systems.
- Dispatches security, public safety, or other personnel to alarm conditions across the country from the alarm monitoring center.
- Maintains, troubleshoots, and modifies hardware and software systems; provides database and activity reports based on alarm activity.
- Directs vendors during installation processes and communicates frequently with end users for training and problem resolution.
Requirements
- High school degree required; bachelor’s or technical school degree preferred.
- One or more years of related security experience.
- Proven knowledge of corporate safety and security practices, procedures, equipment, firearm, and console operation.
- Ability to learn the use of firearms (qualify annually) and safety equipment.
- Personal computer skills and strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to use good judgment, deescalate situations, and provide calm, rational direction.
- Must be in good physical condition with the ability to walk, run, stoop, kneel, carry, and lift to perform assigned duties.
- Must be available to work after standard office hours, weekends, and holidays as needed for emergency situations and special event coverage.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Due to fiduciary accountability, a valid credit and/or background check will be required; a criminal check will be conducted yearly for all security associates.
- This job is identified as safety-sensitive and may be subject to random alcohol and drug testing under the substance-free workplace program.

Pay
Starting salary for this role is $50,000 plus a 15% shift differential. The national salary range for this position is $49,100–$91,300, with an expected starting range of $49,100–$73,700.
Schedule
- Third-shift position: 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
- Full-time at 40 hours per week, with two consecutive days off during the week.
- Overtime eligible (non-exempt).
- Standard workday is eight hours, including a paid lunch period.
