About the Role
Provide day-to-day counsel, guidance, and support related to contracts, construction law, and other legal matters for assigned Business Units and/or regions.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice and risk assessments across a broad range of legal matters related to contracts and construction law.
- Advise business partners on legal, contractual, and risk matters impacting their areas of responsibility.
- Analyze and summarize legal documents and complex business transactions and contracts.
- Anticipate and mitigate potential legal problems involving the assigned Business Units.
- Conduct and compile research; maintain and update organized legal due diligence documents.
- Review owner contracts and support Business Unit leaders in the bidding and negotiation process.
- Review routine project-related agreements (e.g., BIM releases, crane swing agreements, title company deliverables, lender consents).
- Analyze change orders and waivers/releases prepared by others for legal risks.
- Partner with lead counsel in the management and resolution of contested matters.
- Manage litigation and corporate disclosures for RFQ/RFP responses.
- Partner with Corporate Secretary regarding authorizing resolutions to accompany bids.
- Maintain and utilize best practices with respect to contract terms.
- Deliver legal training to Business Units on a variety of legal topics, including project-specific requirements and ethics/compliance.
- Develop and provide input to capture market trends and continuously improve processes.
- Perform other activities, duties, and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- JD degree with a valid law license.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience with an emphasis on construction law, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
- Exercises independent judgment and discretion with the ability to identify problems and initiate corrective action.
- Self-starter with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deliver high-quality work on tight deadlines.
- Maintain knowledge of industry best practices and applicable legislation affecting operations.
- Adaptable and flexible to operate with minimal direction and little or no supervision while working in a complex and changing environment.
- Proven written and verbal communication abilities with an emphasis on problem-solving and negotiation, and the ability to explain complex legal concepts to employees and staff at all levels.
- Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Office suite and various legal case management systems.
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret contracts and insurance documents.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work with staff at all levels, both internal and external.
- Ability to travel.

- Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Must be able to travel via multiple modes of transportation.
Work Environment
- Regularly performed in an office environment with usual office working conditions, free of disagreeable elements.
- Occasionally may travel to and work at job site locations or client office locations, potentially in a trailer or other temporary structure.
- Noise level in the work environment may be moderately loud.
Pay
Salary ranges by location:
- New York, NY: $125,000 – $155,000
- San Francisco, CA: $125,000 – $155,000
- Boston, MA: $125,000 – $155,000
- Connecticut: $125,000 – $155,000
- Seattle, WA: $125,000 – $155,000
- Denver, CO: $125,000 – $155,000
- New Jersey: $125,000 – $155,000
- Washington, DC: $125,000 – $155,000
- San Diego, CA: $125,000 – $155,000
- Los Angeles, CA: $125,000 – $155,000
- Baltimore, MD: $125,000 – $155,000
- Maine: $125,000 – $155,000
- Virginia: $115,000 – $140,000
- Chicago, IL: $107,000 – $130,000
- Cleveland, OH: $100,000 – $125,000
Actual compensation within these ranges is based on factors unique to each candidate, including skill set, years and depth of experience, certifications, and specific location.
