Corporate Accounting Manager
Position Summary
The Corporate Accounting Manager will lead and develop the Corporate Accounting team while working closely with the Vice President of Finance & Accounting and the Director of Operational Systems & Finance. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, driving process improvements, and supporting the financial performance of the hotel portfolio. The position requires strong leadership, technical accounting expertise, and extensive hotel accounting experience. This position is an in-office position, five days per week.
Essential Functions
Lead, mentor, and develop the Corporate Accounting team, fostering a culture of accountability, excellence, and continuous improvement.
Conduct annual performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching and professional development opportunities.
Oversee daily accounting operations and implement process improvements that enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Manage the month-end and year-end close processes for a portfolio of hotels, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
Review financial statements and reports for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company standards.
Support assigned hotels with accounting oversight and operational financial guidance.
Develop, implement, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to support strong internal controls, accurate accounting practices, and timely financial reporting across the portfolio.
Establish and manage an audit program to evaluate compliance with company SOPs through both remote and on-property reviews.
Ensure balance sheet reconciliations are completed timely and accurately, including review and approval of reconciliations prepared by accounting staff.
Ensure compliance with all applicable sales, occupancy, and use tax regulations, ensuring timely filing and payment to governmental agencies.
Maintain oversight of business licenses, permits, and regulatory compliance requirements for all properties.
Oversee NewStar accounting postings and reconciliation processes.
Ensure franchise fees and related charges are accurately recorded and reconciled.
Manage accounting activities for non-hotel entities within the organization.
Participate in quarterly depreciation and amortization calculations, journal entries, and reporting.
Maintain accurate accounting records and ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and company policies.
Track capital expenditures and development costs for new construction and renovation projects.
Manage construction accounting, including draw requests, expenditure tracking, and project cost reporting.
Monitor insurance claims activity across the hotel portfolio and coordinate communication with hotels, insurance carriers, and claims administrators as needed.
Analyze accounting and operational processes to identify opportunities for cost savings, improved efficiency, and enhanced profitability.
Assist property leadership teams with monthly forecasting and financial analysis as needed.
Provide financial and operational support for special projects, initiatives, and strategic objectives directed by the Vice President of Finance & Accounting.
