Corporate Accountant - On site

About the role

The Corporate Accountant position is within the Corporate Office of SmartStop Self Storage. SmartStop is a leading self-storage operator with over 460 properties across North America and Canada.

Responsibilities

• Prepares financial reports to track assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other financial activities.
• Aids in preparing monthly financial statement consolidation and quarterly financial statement packages for senior management.
• Collaborates and reviews monthly reporting from property accountants.
• Produces journal entries, account reconciliations, and other general accounting duties.
• Maintains the general ledger.
• Develops and produces supplemental financial schedules.
• Supports variance analysis through internal reports.
• Assists with external financial statement audits.
• Supports treasury management initiatives.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required.
• Minimum 1 - 3 years experience in public accounting and/or private company accounting experience.
• Knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
• Understanding and adherence to generally accepted accounting principles.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational and attention to detail skills.
• Exceptional time management and analytical/problem-solving abilities.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
• Hands-on approach and effective performance in a demanding setting.
• Ability to adapt quickly to changes.
• Real Estate/REIT experience is a plus.
