About the role

The Corporate Accountant position is within the Corporate Office of SmartStop Self Storage, a leading self-storage REIT headquartered in Ladera Ranch, CA. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring accurate financial reporting and supporting decision-making for senior management.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares financial reports to track the organization’s assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities.
  • Aids in preparing monthly financial statement consolidation and quarterly financial statement packages for senior management.
  • Collaborates with property accountants to coordinate and review monthly reporting.
  • Produces journal entries, account reconciliations, and other general accounting duties.
  • Maintains the general ledger and prepares supplemental financial schedules.
  • Assists in variance analysis and external financial statement audits.
  • Supports treasury management initiatives.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required.
  • Minimum 1 - 3 years experience in Public Accounting and/or private company accounting experience.
  • Knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
  • Understanding of and ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Hands-on and effective in a demanding work setting.
  • Able to adapt quickly to change.
  • Real Estate/REIT experience a plus.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration required.
  • Minimum 1 - 3 years experience in Public Accounting and/or private company accounting experience.
