Responsibilities
- Day-to-day and month-end bookkeeping (AP/AR, bank reconciliations, journal entries)
- Accounting for each stage of the property lifecycle:
- Capitalization of acquisition costs (real estate held for sale / inventory accounting)
- Tracking and capitalizing renovation costs, and allocating project costs
- Recording gain/loss on sale and processing closing statements
- Monthly and quarterly closing (trial balance preparation, account analysis and reconciliation)
- Preparing reports for Japan HQ (translating U.S. GAAP-based figures into the format required by Japan-side reporting)
- Supporting external CPA/tax preparer engagements (annual audit, tax filings)
- Assisting with cash flow management (payment scheduling, cash needs forecasting)
- Vendor invoice processing and payment execution
- Supporting internal controls and process improvement initiatives
- Other accounting-related tasks as directed by the CFO and management team
Requirements
- Approximately 3+ years of hands-on accounting experience
- Practical experience with international accounting (IFRS, AP/AR, month-end close)
- Experience with accounting systems such as NetSuite, QuickBooks
- Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, formulas, data analysis)
- Detail-oriented and able to work independently
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
- Coursework or credentials in accounting principles and/or corporate finance
Skills
- Business-level communication in both Japanese and English (including report writing) preferred
