Job Summary
The Engine Networking Team at Roblox ensures the communication of the game state to all players, enabling a nearly synchronous experience. This role involves working on a powerful user-space network stack, large multithreaded distributed systems, and various devices including desktops, phones, and consoles.
About the Role
You will be responsible for developing and maintaining the network transport layer, ensuring real-time communication across all parts of the Roblox platform. Your work will involve optimizing performance, reducing latency, and improving throughput in client/server environments.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a powerful user-space network stack
- Solve problems related to scale, performance, latency, and throughput in client/server environments
- Work on a large multithreaded distributed system connecting millions of users worldwide
- Ensure real-time communication of every part of Roblox
- Collaborate with the game engine team to improve overall player experience
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience with game networking
- Experience with game engines and understanding of their workings
- Deep understanding of network stacks and strong passion for systems-level C++ programming
- Experience with Linux networking and familiarity with common network protocols
- Understanding of operating system-level interactions and optimizations
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
- Experience with open-source projects
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Pay
The starting base pay for this position is within the range of $195,780—$242,100 USD. Actual base pay is dependent on job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs, and market demand. The pay range is subject to change and may vary based on these factors.
Schedule
Roles based at Roblox’s headquarters in San Mateo, CA are typically scheduled to be onsite on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
