About the Role

Responsible for evaluating students' speech and language skills; providing therapeutic intervention to identified students; consulting with staff and/or parents regarding speech and language functioning in the educational setting.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement.
  • Identifies and evaluates students with speech and language impairments.
  • Provides a therapeutic program to meet individual needs of speech and language impaired children.
  • Participates in the determination of eligibility for special education and related services in the area of speech and language impairment.
  • Participates in teacher and parent conferences including multidisciplinary conferences, IEP meetings, and Annual Reviews.
  • Develops and implements IEPs for all students eligible for special education and related services in the area of speech and language impairment.
  • Provides intervention support for students in the speech RtI process.
  • Team teaches with classroom teachers when appropriate.
  • Completes required documentation and reports, including Medicaid billing, case notes, and related service logs.
  • Participates on case study and collaboration teams as needed.
  • Facilitates curriculum and instructional modifications.
  • Additional tasks as assigned.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent sitting, walking, and standing.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Occasional travel to various school locations required.
  • Occasional need for work outside normal hours/days.

Work Environment

  • Work is performed in an environment where unusual temperature and noise are relatively nonexistent.
  • Work is performed in an environment where health hazards may occur.

Qualifications

  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with Speech Language Pathologist (teaching or non-teaching) endorsement.

Terms of Employment

All terms of employment are outlined by the collective bargaining agreement with the Steger Education Association.
