About the role
Proofread and copyedit product, copy, and layout to ensure accuracy and improve overall quality at Smurfit Westrock (NYSE:SW), a leader in sustainable packaging solutions.
Responsibilities
- Proofread created products through all stages to ensure accuracy against provided materials.
- Verify copy and layout for correctness in spelling, grammar, typeface, size/style, line spacing, layout, and printing specifications; correct mechanical errors.
- Copyedit newly created copy and layouts for sense, readability, consistency, style, and conformity to automation requirements.
- Maintain superior knowledge of standard proofreading terminology and symbols.
- Test web-based templates built by prepress technicians for external use on the company's tag-setting website (Image Ease).
- Test IT programming used to drive the company's e-commerce website (Image Ease).
- Maintain integrity of databases used to drive tag setting.
- Assist in maintaining customer websites that work in conjunction with JHC.com.
- Create customer proofs and verify accuracy and functionality of QRs, UPCs, and other electronic codes.
- Work with translators to ensure timely, accurate translations.
- Perform general departmental administrative tasks as assigned.
- Draft standard operating procedures and operator work instructions as requested.
- Participate in problem-solving initiatives.
- Train new and current employees as requested.
- Serve as a resource for both internal and external customers on the use of the Image Ease website.
- Proof products and communicate with internal and external customers via email.
- Provide backup support for other prepress operators and team members as requested.
- Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum Associate’s degree (AA) with a focus on English studies (e.g., journalism).
- Six to twelve months of related experience.
- Basic computer skills, including internet, email, routine database activity (Excel), word processing (Word), spreadsheets (Excel), graphics, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Excellent communication skills, demonstrating tact, sensitivity, and professionalism.
- Demonstrated competency in proper spelling and grammar in English.
- Must pass a basic reading test.
- Ability to write, read, and comprehend work instructions, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Detail-oriented, willing to continuously improve, and able to work well with others.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from internal and external customers.
- Ability to maintain good attendance and work overtime as needed.
- Basic arithmetic skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Ability to perform all essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodation.
