Part-time, non-exempt position based at West Campus in Orlando, FL (32811). Majority of duties performed on-site; occasional remote work possible. Temporary, grant-funded role.

About the role

Provides personal advising and mentoring to participants in the YouthBuild Orange County program, a grant-funded pre-apprenticeship program for at-risk youth ages 16-24 who have previously dropped out of high school. Develops individualized plans and job coaching tailored to participant needs. Assists in outreach and wrap-around support to ensure students successfully complete the program. Works collaboratively with the YouthBuild team to meet federal grant expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide wrap-around support to YouthBuild Orange County participants.
  • Assist at-risk youth in obtaining academic and occupational skills training, support services, and transitioning to full-time employment and postsecondary environments.
  • Facilitate youth intake assessments and determine participant eligibility under program guidelines.
  • Develop and implement individualized plans in accordance with participant needs, providing resources and support to meet goals.
  • Work with program staff and community partners to identify barriers to learning and recommend solutions to enhance student success.
  • Review and evaluate student progression toward program completion.
  • Provide regular contact and coaching to program participants to accomplish program requirements.
  • Determine participant incentive amounts bi-weekly and complete documentation for performance-based incentive payments in collaboration with grant community partners.
  • Assist YouthBuild Orange County GED Instructor with classroom management, student communication, and test scheduling.
  • Work with the Assistant Director of YouthBuild to ensure compliance with grant, state, and federal regulations.
  • Monitor student enrollment and maintain records and documentation for each program participant and other program-related files.
  • Attend meetings and training with college staff and external partners to support program activities, including grant steering committee meetings.
  • Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with individuals at all levels within the college and the community.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution, or equivalent combination of related education, training, and/or experience providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Field of study: Education, counseling, or related experience working with students and/or case management.
  • Ability to communicate interpersonally, orally, and in writing.
  • Ability to assess students’ developmental needs and translate theory into practice.
  • Ability to research related information and regulations, prepare reports and documents, and attend to details with accuracy.
  • Critical thinking skills in setting priorities, assessing situations, and making sound decisions.
  • Ability to collaborate with other departments and external partners to resolve student issues.
  • Ability to continuously learn, interpret, and explain new knowledge regarding changes in policies, regulations, and technology.
  • Ability to work evening and weekend hours as needed.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One (1) year of experience working with students in an educational setting, including developmental advising, holistic student support, and/or student engagement.
  • Experience working in youth programming.
  • Experience with grant or non-profit work.
  • Experience with crisis intervention and support.

Pay

$19.93 per hour.

Schedule

Approximately 24 hours per week, generally scheduled Monday through Friday. Specific work hours determined upon hire based on program and operational needs. Occasional weekend work may be required, though weekend assignments are rare.
