About the role
Coordinates the activities of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), and assists with the Institutional Review Board (IRB) functions.
Responsibilities
- Maintains institutional compliance with all regulations pertaining to research involving human subjects, animals, infectious agents, and recombinant DNA.
- Applies federal and state regulations and university policies & procedures pertaining to research involving human subjects, animals, infectious agents, and recombinant DNA.
- Determines the appropriate level of review for research applications and assures compliance with applicable requirements.
- Reviews materials submitted to regulatory committees in accordance with applicable regulations.
- Collaborates with internal and external constituencies to coordinate committee matters.
- Guides faculty, staff, and students in preparing for proposal submission.
- Tracks and records research-related training documentation for researchers.
- Uses Cayuse and IRBManager database software to track submissions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree (must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
- One year of experience in compliance administration, research administration, or program administration
Qualifications
- Basic understanding of regulations pertinent to human subjects research, animal research, and biosafety (infectious agents and recombinant DNA).
- Proficient computer skills, including MS Office applications and database applications.
- Clear and concise written and oral communication.
- Ability to communicate with a diverse audience of professionals and students.
- Team- and customer-based performance.
- Reliability and detail orientation, with superb organizational skills.
- Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and maintain professional standards under severe time constraints.
Skills, Proficiencies, And/or Knowledge
- Knowledge of University policies and procedures.
- Relevant professional experience in research administration and/or research compliance, preferably in an academic setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Any degree in science, such as chemical, biological, or animal science, where scientific method and research design are studied.
- Prior professional experience with human subjects research, animal research, or IRB/IACUC/IBC administration, preferably in an academic setting.
- Certified IRB Professional (CIP), Certified Professional in IACUC Administration (CPIA), Certified Research Administrator (CRA) and/or similar research-related administration certification.
