The CENTERS team is innovative, entrepreneurial, and ambitious. This position will work on-site at our University of Missouri-St. Louis location.

About the role

The Coordinator, Recreation Sports is responsible for the administration of the intramural sport and youth camp program. The coordinator will collaborate with campus partners and department teammates to plan, schedule, and administer these programs. With support from direct reports, the coordinator will provide excellent customer service to program participants, manage program delivery, and enforce sport rules, program, and university policies.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, schedule, and register participants for intramural and camp programs
  • Train officiating mechanics and game, conflict, and risk management skills
  • Develop and communicate intramural sport rules, program participation policies, and procedures; develop and communicate camp policies and procedures
  • Supervise competitive sport contests and provide staff with on-site evaluations
  • Manage the Summer Camp program, including summer camps and day camps
  • Manage climbing wall operations
  • Communicate with campers' parents/guardians
  • Manage and inventory all camp and intramural sport equipment and supplies
  • Evaluate performance and program effectiveness; ensure programs align with current trends and rules
  • Responsible for operating, preparing, forecasting, and monitoring income and expense budgets related to the program area
  • Prepare regular written communication such as monthly and annual reports, financial and participation reports, and equipment inventory reports
  • Hire, manage, train, and supervise intramural officials, supervisors, climbing wall attendants, and camp staff
  • Responsible for approving timecards and preparing necessary documents/reports for payroll
  • Work in collaboration with the Department of Athletics to secure outdoor facility space and internal facility operations for indoor space

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or 4 or more years of work experience required
  • Experience working in higher education, recreation, or sports
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and organizing intramurals
  • Officiating experience preferred
  • Climbing wall management experience preferred

Physical Demands

  • Sitting at a desk or table for at least 60% of the workday
  • Ability to traverse buildings, sports fields, and campus, including ascending/descending building levels and occasionally ladders or stools
  • Must be able to lift, move, and set up items weighing as much as 30 lbs
  • Must be able to discuss, converse with, and exchange accurate information with patrons, staff, and stakeholders
