Coordinator Professiona Coding Qual/Education - Full Time-Remote

About the role

This 100% remote position involves reviewing surgical coding and denials with flexible hours once trained. The Coding Coordinator of Quality & Education oversees and ensures the completeness, accuracy, quality, and timely submission of medical record coded information for hospital and ambulatory sites, supporting billing and reimbursement. This role acts as a departmental liaison in the coding reimbursement process and designs educational programs to improve documentation practices across Henry Ford Health System. The coordinator also serves as an educational resource for providers and coding staff on coding and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and oversee the flow of medical record coded information for billing and reimbursement.
• Ensure completeness, accuracy, quality, and timely submission of medical data and supporting documentation for inpatient discharges and outpatient encounters.
• Act as a liaison between the coding department and reimbursement processes.
• Assess, design, and evaluate educational programs aimed at improving documentation practices.
• Serve as an educational resource for providers and coding staff on coding and documentation.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required.
• Associate’s Degree in a healthcare-related field, Medical Records Sciences, or Business/Healthcare Administration, or five (5) years of coding experience in lieu of the degree.
• Additional specialty coding certification or two (2) years of specialty coding experience.
• Thorough knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, disease processes, medical terminology, pharmacology, and coding systems.
• Five (5) years of specialty coding experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Certification in at least one of the following: Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), RHIT Certification eligibility, CPC, CPC-A, CCS, CCP, CCA, or COC.
