About the role

The Intercultural Student Engagement Coordinator is responsible for the development and implementation of co-curricular engagement offerings, high-impact activities, and academic success initiatives to support the unique needs of the many student populations comprising Dallas College in alignment with our institutional culture of care.

Responsibilities

  • Develops tailored programmatic efforts to support student retention and success of members from various communities that mirror our Dallas College student populations.
  • Works collaboratively with college and community partners to enhance the academic success of the various Dallas College student populations.
  • Provides departmental support across the seven Dallas College campuses when needed.
  • Delivers co-curricular engagement to help increase students’ intercultural and global competency that enhances the overall college student experience and builds career readiness skills.
  • Provides in-services training and facilitates meetings, workshops, and seminars to identify issues and develop recommendations to support students.
  • Serves as a resource to staff, faculty, students, and campus community on student engagement and activities and as departmental contact for assigned campus location.
  • Advises senior administrators in implementing programs, new initiatives, and special projects.
  • Led and/or partners on several major events, activities, and initiatives including but not limited to Welcome Week Events, Heritage Celebrations, Solidarity Days, Immersion trips, Global Programming, Campus-based activities, and departmental Signature Programming.
  • Coordinates and facilitates interactive workshops that promote experiential learning.
  • Completes required Dallas College Professional Development training hours per academic year.
  • Ensures that all programs, services, and activities comply with university, state, and federal regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned including monitoring the transportation of and/or accompanying (driving) students to program activities, workshops, and engagement opportunities.

Requirements

  • Three (3) years of experience developing outcome-based student engagement experiences and support interventions within an academic environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field, Master’s in related field preferred.
  • Official transcripts required.
  • Current and valid Texas driver’s license required and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to work extended hours beyond the regular 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. hours.
  • Experience working with diverse student and staff populations.
  • Excellent interpersonal relations skills.
  • Bilingual or multilingual preferred.

SkillsKnowledge of community college student issues through programming, resource management, and other professional activities.
  • Experience connecting students to support programs and resources and ability to maintain student confidentiality and sensitive information that may be observed during student interaction.
  • Knowledge and understanding of student development theory, current issues, and trends in student affairs and student development.
  • Knowledge, understanding, and commitment to the open access policy and philosophy of the comprehensive community college.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the multiple backgrounds of Dallas College students.
  • Implementation and support of intercultural and social leadership co-curricular student programs.
  • Support of culturally relevant student groups including serving as co-advisors to recognized student clubs and organizations.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations regarding student discipline.
  • Shared governance and evidence of strong ability to work effectively and collaboratively with administration, faculty, students, staff, and other constituent groups and partners, both within and outside a college or university.
  • Ability to identify and address opportunities and challenges arising from Dallas College’s transition to a one-college model.
  • An understanding of contemporary issues in higher education is required through professional development activities.
  • Support of departmental international and global programming efforts and various Student Success Strategic efforts.

    Salary Minimum $54,537.00 Annually
