This position is responsible for admissions and student affairs services for the Geisinger College of Health Sciences. For admissions, the role focuses on recruiting and educating potential students about programs through high school and college fairs, national conferences, and individual school visits. The coordinator works directly with high school and undergraduate advisors to assist students in preparing for higher education. For student affairs, the position develops and implements programs and policies to support student engagement, retention, accreditation, and lifelong success in their academic fields.
Responsibilities
- Admissions Duties:
- Utilizes admission information systems to process inquiries through matriculation for GCHS programs.
- Assists in developing and executing admission recruitment plans to support institutional goals.
- Manages and participates in all aspects of recruitment, including outreach to high school and undergraduate advisors and potential students.
- Attends high school and college fairs, conferences, open houses, and visits individual colleges and universities to recruit students.
- Develops travel plans and coordinates meetings with prospective students and advisors.
- Answers student inquiries and meets with prospective students for individual recruitment appointments.
- Works with the Chief Diversity Officer to ensure the School’s diversity mission is included in recruitment efforts, including workshops on preparing for higher education.
- Manages campus visits and tours for prospective students, institutions, and community members.
- Leads sessions with prospective students and assists in executing recruitment events.
- Leads the creation, deployment, and development of Recruitment Days.
- Manages the screening process for assigned applicants, including:
- Reviewing admission applications, official transcripts, and other required documents.
- Evaluating applicant credentials to determine further review by the Admissions Committee.
- Applying holistic review policies to applicant evaluations.
- Maintaining confidentiality in accordance with FERPA policies.
- Participating in training for software, holistic review, and the application process.
- Plans and organizes regional open houses, campus tours, and schedules visits in conjunction with the Admissions team.
- Assists in implementing admissions on-campus recruitment events and credentialing processes for incoming students.
- Participates in strategic planning efforts for Admissions, Registrar, Financial Aid, and other student-related areas.
- Student Affairs Duties:
- Manages the School of Nursing Orientation Program:
- Facilitates onboarding of new students and ensures completion of pre-matriculation requirements.
- Develops Student Affairs materials and schedules from pre-matriculation through orientation completion.
- Coordinates with Faculty, Safety/Security, Library, IT, and others for orientation participation.
- Facilitates all Student Affairs components of orientation, including registration, food orders, room reservations, badge photos, and welcome bags.
- Manages oversight of student engagement activities, leadership development initiatives, and nursing clubs/organizations to enhance student life:
- Assists students in organizing educational, cultural, social, and wellness activities with the Center for Student Life and Wellness.
- Collaborates with the National Student Nurses’ Association (NSNA) advisor to hold annual elections.
- Assists the Sigma – Chi Alpha Chapter Advisor with invitations and inductions for qualifying students.
- Chairs the Student Affairs Committee, providing a platform for students to communicate with faculty, staff, and administration.
- Leads Office of Student Affairs operations with auxiliary services:
- Partners with Marketing and Public Relations for approval of marketing files and media requests for events.
- Collaborates with Facilities, ITS, and Food Services for successful community-wide and student events.
- Manages School of Nursing Program Student Affairs Support:
- Oversees day-to-day operations of the Student Affairs Office, including student services, compliance, activities, leadership development, and career planning.
- Collaborates with faculty, academic advisers, and staff to identify students in need and provide referral services (e.g., Center for Learning Excellence, Accessibility Services, Student Health, CARE Team).
- Communicates Student Affairs information to nursing students, staff, and faculty via listservs, emails, and other marketing efforts.
- Coordinates with the Faculty Advisor to the Student Government and Student Nurses Association.
- Works with elected student leadership to set goals, agendas, and ensure responsibilities are met.
- Serves as the liaison for administration with student leadership on policy development, accreditation needs, and initiatives.
- Coordinates student wellbeing programming and proactive support initiatives:
- Plans, organizes, and supports student wellbeing events and programs with institutional and community partners.
- Assists in developing, implementing, and assessing wellness initiatives addressing social, emotional, and academic needs.
- Conducts Solo sessions with students each semester to assess needs and connect them with resources.
- Maintains accurate records of student outreach, referrals, and follow-up activities while ensuring confidentiality.
- Collaborates with faculty, staff, and support offices to identify students needing additional resources and facilitates referrals.
- Serves on GCHS committees as appointed and prepares reports, proposals, and related correspondence.
- Manages the School of Nursing Orientation Program:
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (required).
- Minimum of 1 year of related work experience (required).
- Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.
- Works independently and within a team environment.
- Operates a motor vehicle to transport self and recruitment materials to events.
- Works internally and externally, including some nights and weekends as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, or Education.
- 3-5 years of experience in higher education admissions.
- Expertise in training and leadership development.
