About the role

The Office of Merit Scholarships, Fellowships & Awards has an outstanding opportunity for a Coordinator & Advisor to join their team. The OMSFA Coordinator & Advisor advances the work of our small but dedicated scholarship advising team through coordinating and managing communication and outreach efforts, supporting administrative elements of scholarship application and selection processes, as well as engaging in scholarship advising with undergraduate students.

This position is funded through June 30, 2028, with a possibility for extension based on funding. Work is largely conducted in-person with limited remote work availability.

Responsibilities

The OMSFA Coordinator & Advisor will be responsible for two main areas: Coordination and Management (60%) and Advising (40%).

Coordination and Management responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating and facilitating OMSFA programming, workshops, and events
  • Supporting Gilman, Boren, Bonderman, and other national, international, and internal UW scholarship application and nomination processes
  • Engaging in outreach on behalf of OMSFA, creating outreach materials, and representing OMSFA at campus events
  • Providing critical insight into strategies for incorporating DEI values into OMSFA programming and processes
  • Assisting in the maintenance of scholarship databases and applications, managing website updates, social media, and listserv emails, and supporting data collection and evaluation
  • Assisting with office administration, including scheduling meetings, tracking calendars, and planning events

Advising responsibilities include:

  • Serving as a primary advisor for students seeking general scholarship information through one-on-one appointments and group sessions/events
  • Facilitating workshops, information sessions, and other events to assist undergraduate students in developing skills and tools relevant to undergraduate scholarships and fellowships
  • Serving as the primary scholarship advisor and contact for the Gilman Scholarship and Boren Scholarship, conducting outreach, hosting events, and one-on-one advising to support students in applying

Requirements

To be considered for this opportunity, applicants must demonstrate they meet both the minimum qualifications and additional qualifications listed below.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in any academic field
  • Two years of experience in student support services, advising, or program support

Additional Qualifications:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation and public speaking experience
  • Strong problem-solving, management, and organizational skills
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision
  • Enjoy working with students and possessing strong interpersonal skills, including an ability to communicate effectively across diverse cultural backgrounds and life experiences
  • Team-oriented, collaborative approach and a desire to interact with colleagues across departmental units
  • Well-organized, efficient, works well under deadlines, and is attentive to details
  • Proficient with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, social media, data management, and website content management systems (e.g., WordPress or ProcessWire)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One year of experience in program coordination or management
  • Experience in international education, experiential learning, or a related field

Pay

The pay range for this position is $62,448.00 annual.
