About the role

Ameristar Casino Resort Spa is seeking candidates 18 or older for a full-time position in the Richman Beer Garden, an outdoor venue operating limited hours. The position involves supporting operations in the Richman Beer Garden and fulfilling scheduled hours in other kitchen outlets based on business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide friendly and efficient service to guests in an outdoor, guest-facing cooking environment.
  • Take and process guest orders directly, explaining menu items and cooking processes as needed.
  • Maintain a positive and professional demeanor while working in varying outdoor conditions, including exposure to sun, heat, wind, and potential insects.
  • Effectively communicate with guests, answering questions and addressing concerns in a timely and courteous manner.
  • Prepare all food items according to standard recipes and menu specifications, ensuring consistency of product quality.
  • Proficiently operate outdoor cooking equipment, including grills (charcoal, gas, wood-fired), smokers, and outdoor fryers.
  • Make salads, soup bases, fire up all equipment, gather products from other outlets, marinate various proteins, portion proteins, grill proteins, prepare stocks, blanch noodles or pasta, deep fry products, prepare plates for presentation, preparations of cold sauces, produce rice, stuffings, vegetables.
  • Maintain a clean and organized outdoor cooking area, including proper disposal of waste and grease.
  • Maintain daily temperature reheating, cold & hot holding, cooling, equipment temperature logs.
  • Perform assigned side work, including replenishing and restocking workstations with supplies.
  • Check station before, during, and after shift for proper set-up and cleanliness.
  • Maintain inventory of needed supplies.
  • Adhere to control procedures for food costs and quality.
  • Always conduct oneself in a manner that reflects a positive professional image.
  • Ability to perform duties within hot to normal to cold temperature ranges.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to read and gather all necessary items for recipe execution.
  • Actively participates with staff to cook, prepare, dish-up and assemble all outlets food.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in food preparation and food knowledge.
  • Must be able to perform all cooking duties.
  • Ability to work efficiently and maintain composure in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent guest service skills.
  • Proven experience in a guest-facing food service role.
  • Working knowledge of food storage, knife handling and sharpening, weights & measures, stocks, soups and sauces, plate presentations, recipes and yields, Health department regulations, sanitation, and safety regulations.
  • Uses appropriate language when engaging guests and co-workers in conversation, communicating clearly and courteously, and providing continued service to all guests.
  • Determines the nature of guest concerns and takes appropriate action to resolve general concerns, obtaining assistance from the proper personnel, as necessary.
  • Strong organization skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with team members at all levels of the organization.
  • Comfortable working in various outdoor weather conditions.
  • Experience working with outdoor cooking equipment (grills, smokers, etc.) preferred.
  • Valid food handler's permit or ServSafe certification required or able to obtain within 30 days of employment.
  • Requires reading and math skills for recipes and measurements.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand basic English to read recipes and communicate with other team members.
  • The ability to work outdoors for extended periods, standing and walking on potentially uneven surfaces.
  • The ability to lift and move heavy equipment and supplies, up to 300 lbs.
  • The ability to perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching.

Pay

$20.00 to $22.00 per hour.

Schedule

Hours may vary based on business needs and may include shifts outside of regular business hours.
