About the role
The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a Cook to prepare, cook, and serve visually appealing and nutritious food for residents, staff, and guests at the Bemidji Veterans Home. This position is part-time and primarily works during the day shift, with potential for evening shifts.
Responsibilities
- Prepare all food items according to menus to meet nutritional and medical needs of residents.
- Follow and maintain food safety and sanitation standards to prevent contamination and foodborne illness.
- Assist with receiving and storing food and supplies using safe and sanitary practices.
- Provide excellent customer service at meal times and adhere to department procedures.
Requirements
- Knowledge of large-scale cooking methods and equipment.
- Understanding of food values and nutrition.
- Compliance with health and safety principles in food preparation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in large healthcare facilities like long-term care or senior care.
- Experience with inventory and stock management.
- Knowledge of International Dysphagia Diet Standardization Initiative (IDDSI).
Additional Requirements
- A Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check may be conducted on the top finalist(s).
- A Tuberculosis (Mantoux) screening (or chest x-ray) is required prior to employment.
- Completion of ServSafe Certification during the probationary period.
Pay and Benefits
- Hourly wage range: $21.78 - $29.73, plus a $2.25/hour shift differential for evening and early morning hours.
