Position Summary

The Cook is responsible for preparing nutritious, appetizing meals in accordance with federal and state regulations, established policies and procedures, and standardized recipes. Working under the direction of the Dining Services Coordinator, this position helps ensure residents receive quality food service in a safe and welcoming environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • 40% – Food Preparation

    • Prepare and cook meats and other menu items.
    • Prepare salads, side dishes, and specialty items.
    • Auxiliary in holiday meals, special events, and therapeutic or modified diets.
  • 25% – Meal Preparation

    • Prepare meals according to planned menus and standardized recipes.
    • Ensure meals are flavorful, attractive, and served at the appropriate temperature.
    • Maintain high standards of food quality and presentation.
  • 20% – Meal Service

    • Assist with and oversee meal service to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
    • Provide direction to Personal Care Workers (PCWs) as needed during meal service and cleanup.
    • Help maintain a clean and organized dining service operation.
  • 10% – Food Safety & Inventory

    • Ensure food and supplies are available for meal preparation.
    • Follow all dietary procedures, sanitation standards, and departmental policies.
  • 5% – Other Duties

    • Perform administrative tasks and other duties as assigned by the Dining Services Coordinator.
