About the role
Cook I is responsible for the preparation of individual stations as set by the restaurant chef’s standards. You will prep, cook, and stock all items within a given station following set recipes and cooking practices. You will also maintain general cleanliness of the kitchen, including trash, dishes, and general cleaning. Where applicable, Cook I may perform cashiering duties.
Responsibilities
- Conduct preparation of assigned menu items according to standardized recipes and specifications.
- Chop, dice, and cut meats, cheeses, vegetables, and fruits for salad and sandwich preparation using hand knives and electric slicer.
- Combine ingredients and plate entrees, salads, sandwiches, desserts, ice cream, beverages, and appetizers for service to guests or wait staff.
- Prepare all items for a station in accordance with outlet expectations.
- Operate grill, fryer, and French-top according to outlet expectations.
- Maintain the required par of food items in your assigned station and ensure ingredient supply levels are accurate.
- Move items from shelves to carts and transport them to assigned stations for restocking.
- Maintain a high level of service while interacting with co-workers and wait staff.
- Observe all safety rules and regulations.
- Keep assigned areas clean and free of debris.
- Maintain proper food levels to ensure guests receive high-quality products as defined by company standards.
- Coordinate with the shift leader to ensure proper par levels for the next day’s product needs.
- Take appropriate actions to ensure quality and reduce waste as directed by outlet expectations.
- Maintain proper food rotation procedures for all items.
- Adhere to regulatory, safety, departmental, and company policies.
- Maintain a visible positive attitude, greet everyone with a smile, and use the department signature greeting.
- Handle and resolve any concerns or questions from customers.
- Accurately and quickly process cash, credit, and comp transactions (where applicable).
- Properly label products and rotate stock items.
- Operate cash register, settle checks, greet customers, and process transactions accurately.
- Maintain the balance of the cash register and record all tips collected from credit cards, comps, and room charges.
- Meet or exceed all customer service expectations and behaviors.
- Greet all associates and guests with a smile and positive attitude.
- Maintain cleanliness of work area and dining room floor.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- One-year previous culinary experience in a high-volume food service operation is preferred.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand basic English.
- Ability to get along with co-workers and work as a team.
- Sense of urgency and ability to react to changing business demands.
- Ability to lift and carry large objects weighing up to 40 pounds above or below shoulders.
- Ability to push and pull up to 100 pounds on a cart or dolly.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Ability to maneuver all areas of the kitchen and food outlets.
- Dexterity to use knives and other hand-held instruments, as well as food prep equipment.
- Auditory range must include the immediate environment.
- Visual range must include near distance.
- Flexible schedule.
- Ability to work in extreme and changing temperatures.
- Ability to bend, reach, and stoop.
- Ability to tolerate chemicals for cleaning and sanitizing kitchen areas.
