About the role
Abraxas Youth and Family Services provides high-quality services and support for over 30 years. The Cook position plays a vital role in helping individuals achieve greater independence, confidence, and success.
Responsibilities
- Help prepare large quantities of a variety of food including meats, fish, poultry, gravies, cereals, soups, vegetables and other foods.
- Use various methods of cooking and seasoning and adhere to proper preparations methods.
- Cook food as directed in the operational menu plan for the facility food service operation.
- Follow recipes and maintain accurate production records.
- Prepare meals according to scheduling and sanitation standards.
- Ensure the quality assurance of all foods and supplies.
- Comprehensive knowledge of food preparation and handling technique.
- General knowledge of safety and sanitation rules and practices.
- Ability to work well independently given proper direction.
- Responsible for hot food preparation, including accompaniments and garnishes.
- Prepares hot entrees, soups and vegetables following preparation sheets and provided recipes for dining room service, healthcare center, cafeteria and special functions.
- Completes food temperature checks each meal.
- Completes production records and stores food items properly at close of meal service.
Qualifications
- One year prior experience in food preparation obtained in commercial, military, or institutional setting strongly preferred.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Food and Safety certification.
Other Qualifications
- At least twenty-one (21) years of age.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Physical exam that includes TB and drug testing.
- Pass both federal and state background checks which screen for crimes including, but not limited to drug related crimes, violent crimes, sexual abuse, domestic violence, child abuse, and repeated misdemeanors.
- Satisfactory completion of background screening and applicable pre-employment checks, including but not limited to employment and/or personal reference and driving records.
- Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
Schedule
Full-Time.

Pay
$20.50/hour with DailyPay available.
