Cook Helper

About the Role

Serves as an assistant to the Food Services department, supporting daily operations to ensure a safe, clean, and efficient environment for food preparation, storage, and service.

Responsibilities

• Keeps all equipment used in the preparation, storage, and serving of food in sanitary condition.
• Maintains cleanliness and order in storerooms, walk-in refrigerators, and freezers.
• Sets up the dish room and dishwashing machine before each meal.
• Washes worktables, walls, refrigerators, and meat blocks.
• Scrapes food from dirty dishes and loads them into racks or onto the conveyor for the dishwashing machine.
• Washes pots, pans, and trays.
• Sweeps, mops, and waxes cafeteria and kitchen floors.
• Removes trash and garbage, placing it in designated containers.
• Steam cleans or hoses out garbage cans.
• Sets up dining room tables.
• Keeps the service line stocked with dishes, silverware, glasses, milk, food, and other supplies during service times.
• Prepares and serves food as requested, following pre-planned menus.
• Clearly communicates and models appropriate CSS and employability skills.
• Maintains accountability of staff, students, and property.
• Adheres to safety practices in all areas of responsibility.
• Fosters a conducive, harassment-free environment at the center, ensuring a safe space for staff and students.
• Attends all required staff training opportunities.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Six months of related experience preferred.
• Experience working with youth.
• Valid driver’s license in the state of employment with an acceptable driving record.
