Position Location
This position is located onsite in Gadsden, Alabama.
Job Overview
Aids the Cook in preparing meals according to planned menus within budgetary constraints and adhering to government and management directives. Oversees Culinary Arts Trainees and Center Work-Based Learning students as a lead worker.
Responsibilities
- Prepares vegetables by washing, peeling, corning, grinding, shredding, or chopping for use in entrees.
- Prepares meats for cooking by washing, trimming, boning, cutting, cubing, or forming into patties or loaves.
- Cooks or bakes items requiring minimal preparation.
- Helps cook and serve meals, ensuring they are held and served at proper temperatures, and properly chilled and stored leftovers.
- Keeps food service area, tables, floors, and equipment clean and sanitary.
- Prepares desserts as needed.
- Assists with the appropriate storage of dry goods and freezer items.
- Promotes and cultivates positive customer service.
- Maintains accountability of students and property; adheres to safety practices.
- Cultivates and maintains a respectful environment free of harassment, intimidation, and disrespect to ensure a safe workplace for staff and students.
- Promotes student attainment of career success standards through modeling appropriate skills, mentoring students, monitoring skill acquisition, and intervening when inappropriate behavior is observed.
- Works in a state of alertness and safely.
- Performs all other duties as requested.
Job Requirements
- Mandatory: High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Six (6) months experience in the food service industry.
- Must be able to obtain a Food Handler’s certificate within 30 days of employment.
- Successfully passes background check and drug test required on the contract.
- Preferred: Previous experience in a commercial or institutional kitchen.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing.
- Occasional lifting and moving up to 25 pounds.
- Close vision and ability to adjust focus.
