ATHENA places a high value on customer service, accountability and getting the job done. Position Summary This FULL-TIME Cook Helper position is located in Dayton, Ohio and is $17.20 per hour. The Cook Helper reports to the Food Service Manager and is responsible for assisting the Cook in the preparation of meals and general kitchen and dining area sanitation. This role supports all aspects of food service operations including meal prep, cafeteria line setup, supply inventory, and kitchen cleanliness. Additional job duties may be assigned as needed. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions: Ensure serving counters are stocked with salads, desserts, and other foods. Replenish napkin dispensers, plate racks, silverware racks, salt and pepper shakers, condiments, and other supplies. Make coffee, tea, and other beverages. Assist in the preparation of foods under the direction of a Cook. Set up cafeteria lines and serve meals on the line. Assist in the storage and inventory of supplies; transfer food ingredients from storage to the cooking area. Clean the food service area, tables, kitchen equipment, and appliances; ensure proper floor care. Assist in washing dishes and utensils; store them in an orderly fashion. Supervise students assigned to assist with food service duties under the direction of the Cook or Food Service Supervisor. Model, mentor, and monitor the positive normative culture of the center. Perform other related duties as assigned. Required Skills/Abilities Ability to promote Career Success Standards (CSS) by modeling appropriate behaviors, mentoring students, and monitoring both positive and negative behaviors through interventions. Positive, quality customer service to students, staff, and other center customers. Ability to assist in programs and activities held in the cafeteria. Strong organizational skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Computer proficiency. Education And Experience Requirements Six months of food services or custodial experience required. Cafeteria/kitchen experience required. Valid food handler's permit in the state of employment required. Physical Requirements Prolonged periods of standing and walking in a kitchen environment. Ability to lift and carry food supplies, equipment, and materials as needed. Ability to work in varying temperatures typical of a kitchen setting.
