About the Role
The Cypress of Charlotte is recruiting for a hospitality-focused Cook to join our Health Center team! This position is responsible for full-scope, hands-on production cooking in the Culinary Services Department.
Responsibilities
- Ability to work all stations in the kitchen.
- Efficiently run assigned station during the shift, follow all specifications, and stock food as needed.
- Maintain the quality of food and plate presentation.
- Prepare all soups, stocks, and sauces; boil, braise, and roast items as per standardized recipes.
- Prepare and serve all sautéed, fried, grilled, steamed, and baked items as per standardized recipes.
- Prepare or direct the preparation of all food served, following standard recipes and special diet orders.
- Plan food production to coordinate with meal serving hours, ensuring excellence, quality, temperature, and appearance of food are preserved.
- Determine amount and type of food and supplies required for daily menus and ensure supplies are obtained from storage areas in adequate time for meal production.
- Ensure all sanitation and health department guidelines are met by maintaining cleanliness of station and assigned areas of the kitchen.
Requirements
- SERVSafe Certification preferred.
- Experience in hospital or senior living preferred.
- Knowledge and experience with mechanical diets, food restrictions, allergies, etc.
- Ability to perform simple arithmetic and understand measurements and conversions.
- A minimum of three years’ experience as a cook in a hospital, nursing home/health center, hotel, restaurant, club, or similar institution.
- Ability to plan and organize work, interpret instructions, recipes, specifications, and standards.
- Knowledge of kitchen equipment operations and maintenance.
- Some knowledge of nutrition and diet.
- Must be able to effectively communicate, read, write, and follow oral and written instructions in English.
Schedule
- Flexible shifts: 5:45 AM–2:15 PM, 11:30 AM–7:30 PM, or 10:00 AM–6:00 PM
- Every other weekend (EOW)
Pay
$20.00–$22.51 per hour + $1,500 sign-on bonus.
