About the role
This is a full-time position, working 40 hours a week, from 6:00am to 2:00pm, Monday through Friday, with rotating weekends. The role involves preparing entrees, soups, starch, vegetables, and salads for use in various settings, following established recipes and production guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Prepares all food items, including meats, vegetables, soups, gravies, sauces, and therapeutic diet items, following production sheets and standardized recipes.
- Maintains high standards of quality food preparation and portion control.
- Sets up serving lines in accordance with departmental menus and procedures.
- Maintains proper food storage, including sealing, labeling, and dating items.
- Reviews and follows menus, making changes only in consultation with the Chef/Sous Chef.
- Oversees and maintains walk-ins, refrigerators, and freezers, and daily utilization of leftovers.
- Maintains proper sanitation and safety in food preparation areas.
- Handles and prepares food in accordance with sanitary regulations.
- Works with the Chef in menu planning and suggests changes as necessary.
- Makes daily inspections of pantries and reports deficiencies to the supervisor.
- Assists the Chef with ordering food items for daily production.
- Washes and cleans utensils and equipment utilized in production.
- Reports repair and maintenance needs to the Manager.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- 0-1 year of food production experience preferred.
- No certification or licensure required.
Qualifications
- Fundamental knowledge of general kitchen and ingredient offerings.
- Ability to learn Health Department Regulations related to food storage and preparation.
- Strong ability to use and maintain kitchen equipment.
- Good communication skills.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Ability to lift 50lbs.
- Extensive walking, bending, stooping, standing, pulling, pushing, and carrying.
- Ability to understand verbal and written instructions in English.
- Ability to taste and smell.
- Exposure to heat and cold.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple tasks.
