About the Role

Performs all duties in all areas of the kitchen including cooking, preparing and/or serving food as ordered while complying with all applicable sanitation, health, and personal quality and hygiene standards. Follows established food production programs and procedures. Ensures appropriate use of facility supplies and equipment to minimize loss, waste, and fraud.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, stock, and organize workstation at the beginning of the day.
  • Thaw, cut, and prepare food items; portion and store them in proper containers.
  • Set levels for production of food items and check stock levels in coolers.
  • Use knives, measuring ladles, scoops, scales, can openers, kitchen scissors, slicers/mixers, skillets, steamers, and other kitchen tools or utensils.
  • Plan food production to coordinate with meal serving hours to preserve excellence, quality, temperature, and appearance of food.
  • Organize items for sautéing, blending, cooking in ovens, grilling, frying, and steaming to ensure accuracy of ordered items.
  • Prepare broiled, baked, grilled, steamed, sautéed, blended, and fried items using recipes and appropriate equipment (e.g., sauté pans, stockpots, grills, ovens, fryers).
  • Know cooking times for all items to ensure correct doneness and complete food temperature checks before serving.
  • Prepare menu items, ensuring proper plate presentation and garnish.
  • Maintain proper food storage temperatures and rotation using the FIFO method; store food safely by marking dates and items.
  • Clean and sanitize workstation during and at the end of the day.
  • Identify food items including produce, meats, cheeses, sauces, and prepared food.
  • Perform side duties such as cleaning ovens, steamers, tilt skillets, slicers, mixers, hoods, filters, washing floors, and organizing storerooms.
  • Handle multiple priorities, work under stress, and exercise good judgment when dealing with guest situations and complaints.
  • Correctly set up, operate, break down, and clean all equipment.
  • Comply with established sanitation, personal hygiene, and health standards; observe proper food preparation and handling techniques.
  • Maintain a well-groomed appearance and wear proper attire according to the dress code.
  • Maintain daily production records.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma preferred; one year of related work experience required.
  • Prior experience in related food service positions.
  • Moderate reading and writing skills; ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures.
  • Promotes positive public relations with guests.
  • Proficient interpersonal and communicative skills; cooperates and works with all co-workers with minimal supervisory direction.
  • Manual dexterity; auditory and visual skills.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English; effectively relate to managers and co-workers.
  • Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts and use a calculator.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Knowledge of word processing software and other relevant software.

Physical Demands

  • Standing for the entire shift.
  • Frequent reaching, bending, stooping, lifting, shaking, stirring, pouring, carrying, and pushing.
  • Frequent use of hands or fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls in repetitive motions.
  • Full sight and hearing capacity required.
  • Frequent walking, sitting, and reaching with hands and arms.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of tubs and cases weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Frequent communication with expediters and servers; reading orders on tickets.
  • Occasional exposure to hazards including cuts, slipping, tripping, falls, and burns.
  • Frequent exposure to smoke, steam, high temperatures, humidity, extreme cold, and contact/immersion of hands in water, sanitation solutions, meat, poultry, seafood, and produce items.
  • Frequent handwashing.
  • Moderate to loud noise level in the work environment.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background and drug test.
