Pay

$20.00 – $22.00 per hour, based on skills and experience. This is a non-exempt, overtime-eligible position.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the attainment of Victory Housing (VHI) mission takes precedence over all decisions and actions.
  • Implement all VHI policies and procedures; abide by local, state, and federal regulations and guidelines to meet or exceed food-safety and industry standards.
  • Prepare meals according to planned/dietitian-certified menus, including special dietary requirements:
    • Pull and thaw ingredients per meal-prep instructions.
    • Follow recipes per nutritional guidelines and HACCP plan.
  • Adhere to resident special-diet orders; serve food according to portion-control guidelines and at correct temperatures.
  • Plate resident meals unique to dietary needs and preferences; presentation must be appealing, garnished, and meet VHI requirements.
  • Prep next-day meals per production sheets and as instructed.
  • Participate in special events, cooking and serving as instructed.
  • Support the Activities Program; nutritious snacks must be available 24 hours a day, with scheduled snack activities twice daily (afternoon and evening).
  • Identify inventory needs; complete weekly inventory count of food and supplies and report par levels in writing to the Executive Director.
  • Assist with uncrating deliveries and storing products in refrigerator, freezer, and dry storage; minimize waste and remove expired goods.
  • Maintain a safe, sanitary kitchen using a “clean-as-you-go” approach:
    • Clean, sanitize, and maintain work surfaces, equipment, walls, floors, cabinets, and shelving during and after meal prep.
    • Perform physically demanding cleaning tasks (bending, lifting, kneeling, mopping).
  • Maintain all equipment (dishes, cookware, utensils, supplies) and report needs to the Executive Director.
  • Clean grease trap and ice machine weekly; maintain records per WSSC guidelines.
  • Wash cookware, glassware, china, etc., in a 3-compartment sink and commercial dishwasher (involves heavy lifting of full racks); store items appropriately.
  • Senior cook/cook on each shift is responsible for dish and cookware cleaning; leaving dirty dishes for the next shift is not permitted.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Seek to assure the highest level of satisfaction from residents and families.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of fire-safety procedures and assist with resident evacuation when appropriate.
  • Maintain ServSafe food and sanitation certification and food-service license.
  • Attend required meetings and training sessions.

Requirements

  • Must be current on all vaccinations, including COVID-19 and CDC-recommended booster doses.
