About the role

The Salvation Army, a non-profit faith-based organization, seeks a Cook to join the ARC – Adult Rehabilitation Center team. This role involves planning, preparing, and serving meals and snacks according to established guidelines and schedules. Responsibilities include ensuring all meals and beverages are prepared and served safely and attractively, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, managing inventory, setting tables, storing and freezing food, and communicating effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, prepares, and serves meals and snacks in accordance with established guidelines and schedules.
  • Cooks and serves meals and beverages in a safe and presentable manner.
  • Cleans kitchen facilities, equipment, and appliances.
  • Maintains inventory of kitchen supplies and food in a neat and orderly manner.
  • Sets tables with necessary items for self-service.
  • Stores, refrigerates, and freezes foods in a safe manner.
  • Monitors expiration dates on all foods and disposes of expired items.
  • Tests food being cooked by tasting, smelling, and piercing food with a fork to ensure proper cooking.
  • Ensures sufficient food preparation based on the number of people to be served and prepares food efficiently, economically, and timely.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED with one year of experience planning and cooking meals for large groups of people, or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal health regulations and Salvation Army policies and procedures for cleaning kitchen appliances and storing food.
  • Ability to prepare nutritious, tasty, and safe food for large groups of people in an economical, efficient, effective, and timely manner.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing, in the English language.
  • Ability to read and comprehend manuals and written instructions.
  • Ability to alphabetize, organize, and maintain various files.

Qualifications
