About the role
The Salvation Army Midland Division Corps Camp Mihaska is seeking a cook to join their team. The position involves all aspects of camp cooking, including meal preparation, dining area setup and cleanup, and maintaining kitchen cleanliness.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve food.
- Comply with state health regulations in the operation of the kitchen, including proper sanitation practices.
- Sanitize all cooking utensils.
- Ensure dining room is set up and tables and floors are clean before and after meals.
- Keep kitchen refrigerators, walk-in refrigerator, freezer, and all drawers and cabinets clean and organized.
- Keep and maintain a daily temperature log of food being served, as well as all refrigerators and freezers.
- Operate necessary kitchen equipment for food preparation and clean-up.
- Lift and carry cooking materials and supplies.
- Attend necessary state certification classes and staff meetings.
- Maintain client confidentiality and treat clients and staff with respect.
- Report any damage or theft of kitchen items to supervisor.
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relationships with clients, co-workers and supervisors.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent and one year cooking experience.
- Able to comply with recipes, safety handling instructions and job description.
- Must have or obtain within the orientation period a valid food handling certificate.
- Able to prepare meals in large quantities.
Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license and pass TSA MVR check is a plus.
Skills
- Ability to lift and carry cooking materials and supplies.
- Attention to detail for maintaining cleanliness and organization in the kitchen.
- Knowledge of state health regulations and food safety practices.
Benefits
This is a part-time position, 24 hours per week.

Physical and Working Conditions
- Must be capable of performing the above essential duties.
- Capable of frequently lifting 25 pounds and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Will occasionally move 50 or more pounds using dolly/cart/truck.
- Most work will be indoors in a temperature control environment; however, in the kitchen it will get above 80 degrees at times and cold in the walk-in refrigerator/freezer if so equipped.
