Summary Of Position
The Cook plays an integral role in the success of our team, our community, and creating a place our residents are proud to call home. The primary purpose of this position is to prepare cold food, bakery, and salad items.
Essential Job Functions
- Prepare meals that follow the menus and recipes.
- Ensure food is taste and temperature palatable and appetizing in appearance.
- Inspect special diet trays to ensure the correct diet is served to the residents.
- Serve food in accordance with established portion control procedures.
- Cook hot foods as directed by Supervisor(s).
- Adhere to food service timelines.
- Prepare and serve only authorized food substitutions to residents who refuse daily menu food options.
- Serve meals to residents and guests as needed.
- Assist in food preparation for special meals, parties, and events.
- Ensure culinary practices, procedures, and food safety are followed.
- Prepare and store food and supplies in a clean and safe manner.
- Aid in the inventory and replenishment process for food and supplies.
- Ensure that food and supplies for the next meal are readily available.
Knowledge And Critical Skills
- Make independent decisions and follow instructions.
- Deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the public.
- Work with ill, disabled, elderly, and emotionally upset people within the facility.
- Communicate in a manner sufficient for effective communication with supervisors, team members, residents, and families.
Education And Experience
- Must meet all applicable state and federal requirements for this position.
- Six months experience in a commercial kitchen preferred.
- Knowledgeable in cooking large quantities of food with little to no direction on how to cook the recipes.
- Knowledgeable of culinary practices, procedures, and food safety.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not have direct reports or supervisory requirements.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
- Frequent lifting/carrying of 30 lbs. and occasional lifting/carrying of 50 lbs.
- Frequent pushing/pulling up to 30 lbs. and occasional pushing/pulling up to 50 lbs.
- Bending/twisting/stooping
- Reaching at or below the shoulder
- Frequent standing or walking

- Expresses oneself clearly and effectively
Environmental Requirements
- May be exposed to heat from kitchen equipment and cold from kitchen freezer
- May work outdoor weather conditions (e.g., BBQ)
